Patios & Pathways

Your Outdoor Home

Patios are where you spend most of your time in your yard. It's the place where you will relax, eat memorable meals, have fun conversations, and entertain your guests. Your patio needs to meet your needs and still blend in and flow with the rest of your yard.

And the perfect patio is just a phone call away!

Patio Planning

Purpose

Imagine what will be happening on your patio. Close your eyes. Open your ears. Are people eating around an outdoor dining table? Are children playing here? Is there comfortable furniture that begs you to sink in and relax?

The vision here is critical. The purpose of the patio, in large part, will dictate your options in terms of size and material choice. If there will be tables and chairs, then the surface of the patio will need to be smooth to accommodate the sliding of chairs.

If there will be patio furniture, and it will be mostly stationary, then a less uniform patio surface can work. This opens up the options for more textured stones or for allowing plants to grow in between pavers and stone.

Now, open your eyes and tell us your vision!

Eating & Entertaining

Areas designed for eating and entertaining require more space to sit comfortably in tables and chairs, and should have a smoother surface in order for chairs to slide easily. A paver patio surface is recommended for this use-case.

Relaxing

Patios can be the cozy and intimate space you go with a good book, or a more expansive and lively entertainment space. What kind of furniture do you have in mind for the space?

Provide Interest

It is always fun to have a pathway that leads to somewhere special or even a pathway to the mysterious nowhere. Satellite patios are also fun in remote parts of the yard where they're surrounded by complementary plants.

The purpose of your patio will largely determine its size and the materials used. Take a moment and envision what will be happening on your patio. Here are some things to consider.

Look and Feel

Whether you need a patio, path, or both, the look must be a match for the yard environment and for the purpose of the patio, and the materials you choose will affect that vision.

Material

Flagstone

Flagstone, or stepping stone, is so popular because it has such a unique, natural look with its asymmetrical stone shapes and a variety of textures!

Paver

Pavers are the perfect choice for a more formal look. The colors and repeatable pattern of pavers add visual structure that leads the eyes further through the yard to other areas of interest. We recommend using pavers when there will be patio furniture and lots of walking traffic. There are three typical structure patterns to lay pavers:

Running Bond

This simple alternating pattern is the most classic and formal of the paver patterns. The predictable pattern is easy on the eyes and therefore fades into the background, giving way to the more interesting parts of the yard. They support, not compete.

Herringbone

This pattern is designed to create a little more interest, and energy with the changing line directions, but still retains some formality.

Random

The random pattern mixes the formality of a repeating pattern with the hint of nature - ordered chaos. It's a great option to add more interest when using pavers.

Chat

If flagstone and pavers won't fit the look, feel, or purpose of the vision, then the perfect option is chat! It's not like standard gravel because it is more firm and holds weight better than gravel. Think of the last time you walked through gravel and remember how much each footstep sank into the gravel. Now, imagine that same walk, with the great, clean look of gravel, without sinking into each step. Chat has a great look that gives a more natural feel. The sound of each footstep and the neutral color complements any yard environment to give a unique and familiar look.

Patio Installation

What lies beneath is what lends to success above. To ensure the longevity and beauty of your new patio or pathway, our patio installation team follows a strict method in building a beautiful and long lasting patio:

Dig Out

Wherever you want your patio, we can create the space. We have an in-house excavation team at your service to create the footprint for your new patio.

Place Weed Barrier

To keep your new patio clean and free of many weeds, unwanted plants, and to have proper drainage, you need a weed barrier. Dont skip this step!

Compact Base

Before the final prep layer (sand) can be applied, the base needs to be raked, formed, and compacted. This removes any remaining debris and levels the base in final preparation for sand.

Raked sand

To ensure that your new patio has minimal shifting and settling through the years, a full layer of sand is added on top of the compacted base.

Laying the Stone/Pavers

This final step may take the longest, because you can't rush the process. The artistry becomes evident at this step and the personality and character of the patio takes shape.

Paver Sand

To finish off the job and to ensure that the pavers and stones stay in place, we sweep in a layer of hardening sand to seal all the seams and cracks. This keeps plants from growing and prevents water from washing sand out.
