Fencing

Attractive Borders

Making Good Neighbors

Fences enclose our sanctuaries.

Specializing in Cedar Fences

There is a simple reason why we specialize in cedar fencing -  it's the best type of fence there is!

Natural materials are always our preference, when they are available. Natural materials blend better with the outdoors and enhance the balance of any yard. With a straight and strong cedar fence, beauty meets function.

Why Cedar?

  • It's a beautiful material
  • It's the most durable natural fence material that can be used
  • It can be painted

Simply put - it's the best stuff to build a fence.

Cedar vs Vinyl

When deciding what type of fence to build, take into consideration not only the material, look, and cost, but also durability, and installation quality.

Cedar and vinyl fences are often contrasted because of their stark differences: Natural materials vs synthetic materials, a natural look vs a manufactured look, a material that is paintable vs one that is not, and a fence that will last decades vs one that will not.

Cedar looks better, can be painted any color, and will last decades longer than any vinyl fence. With our installation process (larger post holes with more cement, 3 cross beams between posts, and layered pickets), your fence will be strong, attractive, and durable.  Can you tell we're partial to cedar?

Classic Cedar Fence Styles

Overlapping

This is a favorite for ultimate privacy and styling. The overlapping boards create more dimension than a standard fence. Also, the crossbeams will be visible to your neighbor, but will never be seen from your side of the fence.

Dog-Eared

The angled top edges are the point of interest here, where a little picketing is cut into each board en lieu of a cross beam.

Tongue & Groove

This is the "classic" wood fence. Running between each fence post are snugly fit fence boards. This creates symmetry on each side of the fence. Also called a "good neighbor" fence, this fence is attractive from both sides.

Less Traditional Cedar Fence Styles

Semi-Privacy

This style allows for deliberate space between the fence boards and allows a view to what's beyond. The side facing the home will not show the cross beams while the side facing the neighbors will.

Contemporary

The most unique, by far, is the horizontal configuration. The horizontal lines widen the view and draws the eye from side to side. The challenge with this type of fence is that after time, the boards warp and some visibility is exposed through the horizontal gaps.

Shadowbox

Also nicknamed a "good neighbor" fence, this fence looks the same from both sides. The alternating pattern also adds dimension to liven the backdrop of any yard or patio.

Fence Finishing and Staining

Natural Finish

There are few materials that can compete with the beauty of a natural, warm cedar.  But, a word of caution. When leaving cedar without a surface coating- water will eventually wash that color away. If the cedar is wetted by any nearby sprinklers you will see discoloration in time.

Stain

Stain has a dual purpose: to enhance the natural color and texture of the wood and to offer the wood protection. Stains come in a variety of colors and can slightly change the natural color of the wood.  The protection offered by stains help keep the wood healthy-looking and vibrant for years.

Paint

Painting a wood fence is for those that like the look, texture, and feel of a wood fence, but want a specific color for the landscape's backdrop. Applying paint also protects the wood.
