Give Your Plants

The Ideal Home

It's Not Only Good for Plants

We can all agree that plants need the right food to thrive. And what if the perfect plant food also looked spectacular?! Using the right materials in the right places will bring your yard years of thriving plants and stunning curb appeal.

The Proof is in the Soil

Most, if not all, success and failures in the yard can be traced back to the soil. If plants are not getting the help they need to thrive, there is no way for plants to make up the difference.

Soil Maintenance

Having been in the Utah landscaping industry for over 50 years, we have the most comprehensive knowledge of Utah soils than anyone else around. We know what soil types naturally occur and how to manipulate soils to accomplish the desired outcome- having healthy and thriving plants.

When thinking about year-to-year maintenance, we take some basic steps to keep yards looking pristine all year round.

Soil Maintenance

To Feed and Beautify

The beds in front of your home deserve a clean look and a nice dark background to shine. Those plants need nutrition to look beautiful and interesting, so soil pep is the material of choice to fill most plant beds.

the Best Plant Food

Compost, in the simplest definition, is decaying plant material, and this is exactly what plants thrive in, so compost is the perfect plant food! Anytime we talk about adding new plants, installing sod to a yard, or enhancing the health of existing plants, we always start with soils. And we want to condition the soil with rich compost to feed the new plants. By tilling in this organic material into the existing soil, plants have the best possible chance to thrive.

Landscape Building Block

Creativity is essential to a great landscape. The ability to modify and change the landscape shape and contour of any yard is endless. But in order to create what the vision dictates, the structure of the dream must be securely built. High-grade topsoil is an excellent base for building. And mixed with good compost, high-grade topsoil is the optimal home for plant life.

A Word of Warning

We always advise using a soil pep or compost when you're deciding what material to use as a bed dressing.

However, we understand that a popular material to use as a bed dressing in Utah is shredded bark, bark mulch, and bark nuggets. While bark will look good when it is first installed, exposure to sun and water (from sprinklers) will quickly drain the bark of its color and leave it dry, bland, and unsightly. It is also common for bark to be blown around by the wind and expose the ground beneath. The bark that gets blown away often ends up in grass and on hard surfaces where it doesn't belong. Bark has no nutrients for your plants either.

Because of the deteriorating nature of bark, it must be removed every year to be replaced by a better looking and more nutrient rich material. While bark might look great when it is first installed, the work involved with maintenance and the short life of its aesthetic makes bark a sub-par choice for bed dressing.

We also understand that the most important opinion is that of our loyal customers and we remind you that we are here to serve your needs and wants. If you want bark in your beds, we will bring as much as you want and make it look spectacular.
